In Greene County district court Rory Van Huth, 48, of Des Moines was sentenced Aug. 26 to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of operating vehicle without owner’s consent, amended from theft- second degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. He was also sentenced to two years in prison, consecutive to the first term, on a charge of unauthorized use of credit. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined another $625 with a $218.75 surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Timothy J. Lee, 59, of Paton was sentenced Sept. 7 to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense. All but seven days of the prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation and a community college drinking drivers school. He was fined $1,875 with a $656.25 surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). He must also pay sheriff’s fees for the jail time he serves. Court costs were $100. Dana Mark Johns, 54, of Jefferson was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on informal probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. His driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. Johns was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge, and a $125 LEI surcharge. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined and $100 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Johns was charged with public intoxication was dismissed, with court costs of $60 assessed to him. (Sentencing: Kester)
Nicholas Lee Culp, 38, of Earlham, pleaded not guilty at arraignment to a charge of driving while license barred. A trial date was set for Nov. 1
